First show in new local series a success; next one May 30

The all-new local horse show series got off to a successful start last weekend, as riders from throughout northwest Michigan competed in classes at Northern Pines Farm in Maple City.

New this year, the By The Bay Local Rider Open Horse Show Series was designed specifically for riders from our region, and includes five shows held between April and July at Northern Pines and at Flintfields Horse Park in Williamsburg, home of Horse Shows By The Bay.

The intermittent rain at this weekend's show was not a problem, as organizers were able to move between host Northern Pines' outdoor ring with all-weather footing and its show ring-quality indoor arena.

The event was judged by Christine Breautigam of Four Winds Farm in Frankenmuth, Mich.

The next show will be held at Flintfields on May 30; riders are invited to register now.

Future shows will be held May 30, June 20, July 3 and July 31. The final show will be featured during the annual Horse Shows by the Bay Equestrian Festival and will serve as the finals where the series year-end awards will be presented.

The prize list for the By The Bay Local Series is available to download online at www.horseshowsbythebay.com or can be mailed to you by clicking here. Each show offers $50 stake classes plus a comprehensive schedule well-suited for the local northwest Michigan hunter/hunt seat riders and the all breed English/Western community.

For those seeking to camp near the site of the shows in Williamsburg, we recommend Everflowing Waters Campground, located less than a mile away (see ad below).

Northern Pines Farm is a private hunter/jumper facility located in Maple City, Michigan, owned by nationally recognized trainer and competitor Melissa Hirt and her husband Glenn. For more information please visit www.northernpinesfarm.com.
